HOUSTON—Dozens of Apple fans lined up in the middle of the night to wait for the 8 a.m. Friday release of the iPhone 5.
The biggest line in the Houston area was spotted at the Apple Store on Westheimer in Highlands Village. Other stores in the area, however, had just a few people or no line at all.
Even for those who preordered the device, some said lining up was just a fun thing to do – even if it didn’t mean getting the new phone much sooner than anyone else.
Apple said its latest smartphone set a new presales record. The company “sold out” within an hour of the presale launch last week.
Despite some complaints about the new iOS 6 software that powers the device, buyers said they were excited about the larger screen size and faster data speed of the iPhone 5.
