HOUSTON—A woman involved in a wreck south of the Medical Center sped away and crashed into a second vehicle, killing one person Wednesday evening, Houston police said.
The fatal wreck happened around 8:40 p.m. in the 7500 block of the South Freeway service road.
Police said the 26-year-old woman crashed her white Chevrolet Silverado pickup into a car on Scott Street at the South Loop and then sped away. She was traveling northbound on the South Freeway service road when she ran a red light at the intersection of Holly Hall and struck a blue Toyota Camry, which was traveling eastbound on Holly Hall, police said.
The passenger in the Toyota Camry, Ingrid Wilson, 47, died at the scene.
The driver was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was treated and released.
The driver of the Silverado was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with no apparent injuries, according to police.
The case is under investigation and, at this time, no charges have been filed, police said.
