HOUSTON—A suspicious package sent to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Wednesday caused a few tense moments for the Houston police officer who responded and took the package away.
Sources say the DA’s office called for HPD assistance after receiving a package with no return address and what workers thought was a powdery substance.
The HPD officer took the package back to Central Command at 61 Riesner. HPD said the officer was then told to stay at the police gas station until the Houston Fire Department, HazMat team and the FBI could investigate the package further. The FBI says the package was deemed non-threatening and released back to the police department.
HPD said investigators will now try to determine if the package was intended to be a threat, or if the entire incident was a false alarm.
