Police search for rapist after Houston grandmother beaten, sexually assaulted

HOUSTON -- There is fear and disgust in a northwest Houston neighborhood after a brutal attack on a woman in her sixties.

The 62-year-old woman was beaten and sexually assaulted in her own home.

Police say the woman was approached by a man as she walked to her car early Friday morning. He forced her back to the house in the 1500 block of De Walt. He hit her over the head with a vase and tried to strangle her with a cord before sexually assaulting her at knifepoint.

“You can't imagine someone doing that to your mom,” said the victim’s daughter.

Neighbors say another woman in her fifties was attacked around the corner a few months ago. There’s fear the cases could be related.

“Whoever it is is a coward because they're going after females,” the victim’s daughter said.

This latest crime has every woman KHOU 11 News met on edge; and, one daughter struggling with what happened to her mom.

“I just picture it and it's going over and over in my head and it's just making me sick,” she said.

Houston police said that Crime Stoppers is now involved with this case. Anyone with information could be eligible for a $5,000 reward.
