HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Deputies opened fire on a pair of home burglary suspects Thursday morning, injuring one while the other barricaded himself in a room.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the men were caught in the act burglarizing a home just east of Katy. Deputies were called to the 21600 block of Oak Creek Court around 9 a.m. after an alarm was triggered at the home.
The sheriff’s office said the suspects, who were still inside, wouldn’t comply with deputies’ commands to put down their weapons and surrender.
Deputies shot one of the suspects while the other ran into a second-floor room, officials said. More than an hour later the second man gave himself up, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Witnesses credited the deputies’ quick response time with catching the alleged crooks.
“It’s awesome,” a neighbor told KHOU 11 News. “I’m glad they responded that fast. It makes you feel a whole lot more comfortable when the police can respond that quick.”
Nearby roads were closed during the standoff but have since reopened.
No one was home at the time of the break-in.
