AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas unemployment rate rose slightly in October while the state bucked a yearlong trend by adding jobs.

A Texas Workforce Commission report released Friday says the jobless rate rose to 8.3 percent from 8.2 percent in September.

The state added 41,700 jobs, just the second time in the past year there has been a monthly increase.

The Texas jobless rate continued to track well below the national rate of 10.2 percent.

Education and health services had the biggest increase among job sectors, adding 14,900 jobs.
