Poll:
Should overweight people be charged more for airline tickets?

HOUSTON – Should overweight people be charged more for airline tickets?

Dr. Bharat P. Bhatta, an associate professor of economics at Sogn og Fjordane University College in Norway, is recommending that tickets are prices according to a passenger’s  weight, CNN.com reports.

Bhatta says a reduction in the weight of a plane can save airlines $3,000 a year and reduce CO2 emissions.

“Charging according to weight and space is a universally accepted principle, not only in transportation, but also in other services,” Bhatta told CNN. “As weight and space are far more important in aviation than other modes of transport, airlines should take this into account when pricing their tickets.”

He proposed three “pay as you weigh” models. Click here to read more about it.
