MERGER TAKES OFF: American Airlines and US Airways completed their merger Monday and introduced themselves as American Airlines Group Inc., the world's biggest airline company by passenger miles flown. It's led by CEO Doug Parker, who held that job at US Airways. The airlines announced their planned merger in February.

KEY NUMBERS: Together, the two airlines conduct nearly 6,700 flights a day to 339 destinations and have about 100,000 employees. But they'll operate as separate airlines until they get government approval to combine the fleets. That usually takes 18 months or more.

STOCK RISES: On their first day of trading, shares in the new company rose 65 cents, or 2.7 percent, to close at $24.60. They trade on the Nasdaq Stock Market (both companies were previously on the New York Stock Exchange) under the ticker symbol AAL.
