HOUSTON -- A local group plans to make a thousand welcome kits for immigrant children being sheltered in the United States.
"Crossing the border is not easy, especially for a young kid," said Cesar Espinosa, founder of FIEL Houston. "Giving them a gift bag, a smile, and clothes would mean the world to them."
Espinosa said many of the children lost what little belongings they had when they entered detention centers and need basic things like toothpaste, shampoo and soap.
Within hours of posting the need on Facebook, FIEL said donors began showing up at their southwest Houston offices with bags of donations.
The group is still collecting supplies, including, children's clothing and shoes, toothbrushes, deodorants, socks and backpacks.
Donations can be dropped off at 6610 Harwin, #214. For more information, please call 713-364-3435.
