BRAITHWAITE, La. -- A grass-cutting crew accidentally killed a boa constrictor in a Plaquemines Parish park last Tuesday.
According to Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office, the crew was working in Davant Park in Braithwaite when a member of the grounds crew hit a snake with the blade of a Bush Hog mower, killing the reptile.
The snake measured 9-feet and was identified as a boa constrictor by scientists from the Audubon Nature Institute, according to the sheriff's office.
It is unclear how snake got into the park. The sheriff's office surmised it may been an escaped pet or was released to the wild illegally.
