HOUSTON—A homeowner, apparently frustrated by crime, opened fire on a couple of would-be robbers who authorities said broke into his home near Midtown Thursday evening.
It all happened in the 2000 block of Tuam around 6:15 p.m. Authorities said the men broke through the glass door and ignored several warnings from the homeowner. That’s when he opened fire, striking both suspects.
Both of the men fled. One of them collapsed on the street and died. The other suspect hopped into a waiting car and was dropped off at the hospital, where he was reported to be under the care of doctors and in police custody.
The car was located about two miles from the scene, but the person who was driving the vehicle was still on the run Friday.
Police said the homeowner is a former Marine and retired police officer from the Washington D.C. area. He is not expected to face any charges.
