FT. SAM HOUSTON, Texas -- Officials with U.S. Army South told KENS 5 Thursday Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is not ready to come to San Antonio to begin the next phase of his recovery.
Bergdahl continues to be under the close supervision of medical doctors and psychologists at Germany's Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.
Army South officials said these psychologists will ultimately decide when Bergdahl is well enough to be moved to medical facilities on post at Ft. Sam Houston.
This will be the seventh time U.S. Army South has handled the "Reintegration" phase for a person rescued from captivity.
The reintegration process includes continued medical care, psychological support, debriefings and family support.
Army South officials told KENS 5 Thursday the reintegration process involves hundreds of people and usually includes members of the returnee's unit.
It is not clear whether members of Bergdahl's unit will be part of his reintegration.
Since Bergdahl was rescued from captivity Saturday, several members of his unit said he intentionally deserted his post in 2009.
