HOUSTON—Officials Wednesday night closed Beltway 8 east near Jacinto Port in east Harris County due to a chemical spill.

TransStar cameras showed an 18-wheeler truck stopped in the road with its lights flashing.

Officials at the scene said a truck carrying a fuel bi-product had a plastic drum rupture, spilling nearly 300 gallons of the chemical. Four people were treated at the scene for exposure to the leak, but officials said there was never a threat to the surrounding community.

The beltway was closed in both directions for several hours, but it reopened in time for Thursday morning's rush hour commute.
