TEXAS CITY, Texas — Several of the county’s well known Aggies will be serving up some heartburn today as the payoff of the annual Yarbrough/Plackemeier college football bet returns after a Hurricane Ike-forced hiatus.
County Judge Jim Yarbrough, a graduate of and a former offensive lineman for the University of Texas, and Texas City Attorney Ron Plackemeier — the first non-corps yell-leader at Texas A&M — annually bet on the outcome of the traditional Thanksgiving Day football game between the two universities.
The loser has to do something that is embarrassing. One year, Yarbrough had the Aggie’s logo tattooed to his hand. Another year, Plackemeier had to have his head shaved.
This year, the loser has to cook up some chili. The Longhorns beat the Aggies, 49-39.
So Plackemeier along with some fellow Aggies in county and city government will serve up "Bevo Chili" at the county courthouse for county employees today.
Plackemeier would not give up the special ingredients he will have in the chili today, but denied rumors that he was planning on serving up Nebraska corn as a side dish.
The Longhorns narrowly defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers during the weekend to earn a berth in the college football championship game.
