DALLAS -- Three high school students on their way to graduation rehearsal were critically injured Thursday in a crash involving a semi truck in Oak Cliff.

Dallas police say the crash occurred Thursday afternoon at West Illinois Avenue and Chalmers Street, where where two cars carrying three teens who attend Dr. Wright Lassiter Jr. Early College School at El Centro were involved in an accident involving a semi truck.

The semi then left the scene, though police say it is unclear if the driver was aware he had clipped another vehicle. A witness said the 18-wheeler never appeared to slow down.

Investigators believe one of the cars may have been speeding and trying to pass the semi when they clipped the curb then hit the 18-wheeler.

Witnesses said they ran to the victims to try to help them out of the vehicles, but the students were badly injured and they couldn't find one of the student's pulse.

The school's principal is at the hospital with the victims' families.

We'll have more on this story as it develops.
