HOUSTON – Plazamericas, the former location of Sharpstown Mall in southwest Houston, was evacuated Monday after a suspicious suitcase was found outside the Jewelry Center, investigators said.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at about 4 p.m. after an unattended suitcase was found.

About 100 employees at the Plazamericas were sent out to the parking lot.

A bomb squad blew up the suitcase and in the process blew out a window on a SUV that was parked near the suitcase.

Witnesses said the detonation shook the entire area.

There were no injuries reported.
