FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas—A suspect in the shooting death of a Fort Bend County florist has been arrested in Mississippi.

Lorenza Sam, 32, is facing murder charges in connection with the death of Leesa Nascimento.

Family members reported Nascimento missing on July 7 after she failed to show up for work at her Sugar Land flower shop, Occasions by Cindy.

Fort Bend County deputies searched her home in the Sienna Plantation subdivision, but they were unable to find Nascimento or her vehicle.

On the morning of July 9, Sugar Land police found a body in a lake at Lakebend and Sugar Creek, near the Southwest Freeway. An autopsy was conducted, and the body was identified as that of Leesa Nascimento. The medical examiner said she was shot to death.

On July 10, investigators said Nascimento’s vehicle was found abandoned in a remote area in Binville Parish, Louisiana.

Fort Bend County detectives interviewed friends and witnesses and eventually identified Sam as a suspect.

Investigators got an arrest warrant for murder, and Sam was taken into custody in Pascagoula, Miss., without incident.

Investigators said Sam is a former employee of Nascimento’s at the flower shop.

Sam was jailed in Mississippi Tuesday and would be extradited to the Fort Bend County Detention Facility at a later date, investigators said.
