HOUSTON – A source has confirmed to KHOU 11 Sports that the Houston Aeros could not reach an agreement with Toyota Center on a new lease and will move to Des Moines, Iowa at season’s end.

The Aeros are the American Hockey League affiliate of the Minnesota Wild.

The two sides have been talking since last year trying to get a deal done that would extend the current lease which ends at the end of the current season. The expiring deal was signed in 2008.

The Aeros have been in Houston since 1994 and were part of the International Hockey League until 2001 when the league folded. They joined the AHL that season and went on to win the 2003 Calder Cup.

The announcement is expected to be made as early as Thursday.

The Aeros have three games remaining on their schedule this year before the playoffs.
