CHANNELVIEW, Texas—When school let out at Schochler Elementary this week in Channelview, Roger Rosales said his son boarded the bus, but never came home.
“The bus driver told my son to get off the bus, this is his stop,” he said. “My son said ‘no, it is not his stop.’”
Rosales said the driver was supposed to drop the second grader off at their home near Redstone and Grassington. She apparently missed the stop, and left the 7-year old at Deerpass and Ferness instead.
The boy was nearly 10 blocks from home. He said the driver told him he could walk and that he was not “a little baby.”
“For a 7-year old child in a neighborhood he doesn’t know that well, it can be a scary walk,” Rosales said.
Fortunately another parent saw him crying on the sidewalk and drove him back.
A spokesman for the Channelview ISD called it “an unfortunate incident” and issued a statement.
“The safety of our students is always a top priority,” it read. “After a review of this matter by district administrators, we feel appropriate disciplinary action has been taken.”
The nature of that action was never made clear.
Rosales said another driver has been assigned to his son’s route, and that he is once again taking the bus.
