HOUSTON -- Houston police crashed a Christmas party for high-priced call girls and their customers last week at a Midtown club called Element.

Tuesday night, police were back out rounding up the men who allegedly paid for sex at the party.

"This is a party that was organized on a Web site that caters to mainly prostitution," said Lt. C. Vasquez with HPD’s vice division.

Members of the site called ASPD.net chat about Houston escorts and even write reviews. Warnings are posted about police activity, and which escorts can be trusted.

Members must be invited to join, and then a check is done to verify their employment. Operators wanted to make sure no cops were allowed.

But undercover HPD vice officers infiltrated the site and became members.

"It took about four months to get in there, from beginning to end," Vasquez said.

At the party, HPD undercover officers found enough evidence to charge 12 people with prostitution.

As soon as the arrests happened, members of aspd.net began to chat about the raid.

They even posted a warning about tonight’s story on 11 News at 10.

"Prostitution is in the virtual world now and if we are going to do our job and enforce the prostitution laws, we are going to have to move into the virtual world too," Vasquez said. "And that’s what we have done."

HPD’s Vice Division is using the site to gather information. Since last week’s raid it has been conducting prostitution stings at hotels and motels all over Houston.

HPD says it has collected names, and will be making more arrests soon.

"There are men who met prostitutes online in the city of Houston who have warrants for their arrest for prostitution, and they don’t know it yet.

They will soon.

KHOU: How about performing a real news function with an objective story on the trade and how ASPD might be more beneficial than harmful even to the interests of the objecting community. It makes the inevitable trade safer for providers, johns, and communities. With a reliable underground forum, these transactions seldom involve public places or risk to the public. ASPD provided information, which significantly improved the overall safety, service, pricing, and attention to health issues and safeguards. It warned of police activity, but it also of dangerous johns, dangerous or scamming providers, age concerns, health issues, etc. Of course, the trade is illegal and it's likely to stay that way, as elected officials pander to uptight bible thumpers and moralizing busybodies, while giving patriotirizing lip service to freedom and marginalizing private adult choices. KHOU will not do that story, however, because it is beholden to the same, behaviorally conservative element. Too bad so sad

What a crock HPD! ASPD was very, very active for years. It had1000s of users and 100s of advertising "providers"...many who were 8s and 9s or better, on a scale of 10. Most were not "high priced." In fact, Houston's low cost of living was amply apparent in this trade per the 1000s of ads ($160-$240/hr). Any PD that slow to "infiltrate" was comfortable with its existence. Also, 4 months to get an officer admitted is SLOW SLOW. More than 1 week is BS or common bureaucratic delay. I suspect that the infiltrating officer found, like I did, the stories to be just another type of fun, if tawdry, cheap entertainment. I'll miss it, at least, until it comes back...tomorrow or the next day. Vasquez's comment about "the virtual world" proves how little he understands the internet. There was nothing, at all, virtual about it. Anyone who wanted a woman for an hour, had (and still has) plenty of choices a phone call away. If anything, it will only be slightly less safe and orderly.

I wonder if the wives of these cops or the chief of police KNOW what is REQUIRED to infiltrate? Yes, you guessed it, real, NOT cyber sex. This is so funny it's cracking me up. Houston is pretty free wheeling in it's money for cops to make busts. I could see for a drug bust. To infiltrate the site, they would have to actually perform. That's the job I want, I'm not married. I'm sure tax payer money was well spent, while a bunch of ya-hoo cops were blanking off all day looking at escort photos. I bet they tried to kill each other over that detail. God forbid they drive their cars around and make their presence made in neighborhoods infested with violence & drugs. Wow. SIGN ME UP!!!! I'm a lazy coward. OH, I also liked the other story that tells how cops are forced to get naked in order to bust prostitutes. Yeah. They just hate that I'm sure. That's all they do too! HAHAHAHAHA

Everyone involved was a consenting adult. No minors! nobody forced to do anything! The sex acts are not any different than what consenting adults do every day for free perfectly legal! Why do we make criminals out of what consenting adults do in private? It may be immoral, but lots of activities are immoral that are not a criminal offense. Surly the Houston Police has more important criminals to track down that are victimizing innocent people!

Is this HPD's answer to the 12 days of Christmas? 12 prostitues and/or johns? You have got to be kidding me. And as the 12 "presents" were delivered to the jailhouse, I'm sure there were 20 more criminals let out to run around the next 4 months while HPD tries to figure out what next to do with thier time.

Agree with Cleek57. As far as the bust, Houston'll get their fines, and they won't be in jail. Some lives of husbands will be ruined - as they should if they're trotting around with prostitutes (and that might save some wives' lives!).

I agree with the majority of posters here that this was a waste of time and money by HPD. What happens between two consenting adults should not be a crime. If the girls are minors, then yes, the police should act but if it's two adults then let them make their business deal in private. Maybe, making prostitution legal could increase the tax base and provide a healthier service if it required the ladies to get health exams monthly. Tax it and regulate it. What is really the big deal about it???

To all the hobbiests out there - book your trip to Toronto Canada where Prostitution is legal (at least the outcall variety - i.e. the woman visits you) and the women are knock outs. Your American dollars are welcome in the Great White North and no-one will hassle you, or arrest you, or anything else so silly. Canadians are far more open minded and liberal than Americans. To quote Pierre Trudeau, "The State has no business in the Bedrooms of the nation". If you want the 411 you can email me at jamestiberiuskirk64 at that hot male dot com. Bring your tourist dollars to Toronto (or Montreal where the women are even more stunning - but that's another story.)

Some guy meets up with one of these "lovely" ladies. He gets an STD. He goes home and gives the STD to his wife. She gets sick. They don't have insurance, so they use the ER to treat the nasty stuff that starts oozing out. They stiff taxpayers, so we foot the bill. Meanwhile, her husband still has raging hormones. He sticks his infected johnson in another woman. He protection breaks, and that girl gets pregnant. Instead of having an abortion, she keeps the baby. She can't afford to feed the baby, so she commits crimes (theft, burglary, etc) to support herself and this baby she didn't want. Victimless crime?? Harmless liasion between consenting adults??

Your tax dollars at work, Texas! When all is said and done, I wonder how much will have been spent on prosecution, public defenders, and police payroll hours....how many were charged with a crime? How many of the accused will have their charges dismissed? And which lady, albeit ladies, will volunteer information about providing services to men that they see with their badges off? Is the police union so hard up for members that they have to invent crime to boost their roles and the need for law enforcement? And why should they battle REAL crime that takes work to pursue, when they can shoot fish in a barrel like this and call it a day? Unfortunately, the Great State of Texas is not unique.

Okay all you arm chair quarterbacks and PROFESSIONALS on the police department. It took 4 months of ONE officer who is assigned to the computer division to get into a website and gain confidence to find out about the prostitution. These are the same who bust perverts who prey on children. Funny you are happy when they infiltrate and bust men who want sex with young girls they go on myspace and kids sites and prey on children, but because nothing was mentioned about the age of the prostitutes you want to bash. The ages will not be released because everything the police do is not your business. These escort services have been known to hire under age girls. It is funny that crime rates are down in Houston, know your statistics before you voice your opinions, it makes you look...well, you know.

I don't see why this is a crime. If a man wants to pay and ugly woman to boink him then that's his prerogative. Isn't this legal in some states? Again our tax dollars being wasted. This is one of those things that will never go away. I mean seriously we need to have undercovers to bring these people in come on. I would be more please if it was for a drug bust or something but prostitution, so what. Aren’t there more serious crimes we can focus on like murder, rape, petafiles, robbery, heck I would be more impressed with getting the illegal’s out of our country or getting the idiots off the road with no insurance.

Our tax dollars at work, really are you kidding me? With the shape our economy is in should we not be getting more bang for our buck? So what is the return on the investment here HPD? How many officers spent four months on this for what to arrest 12 people for "prostitution?" And now you say more arrests are coming. You mean to tell me you didn’t have anything better to for four months? So how much money is this thing going to get you in fines and court costs? With the way the jails are overcrowded are you really going to put a bunch for people in jail for allegedly seeking the services of a prostitute? Come on you are letting real criminals out of jail for real crimes. If I were the new mayor and the current city council I would redirect the efforts of HPD. So how do you arrest someone for seeing a prostitute after the fact? I would think you would have to catch the person in the act, just asking?

Sounds like the site was really run by HPD. I am sure vice had fun doing this bust and four months of setting it up. They seem like worse perverts than the people they busted. Think how much real crime 24 cops working four months could have cleared or prevented. As far as I am concerned, until our streets are safe from violent crime, our homes are safe from break-ins and our banks are safe to visit with no fear from bank robbers, they should not waste their time on this stuff.

Yet another victimless crime that should be legalized, regulated, and taxed. (And to those that say it is not victimless, most of the negative repercussions of this activity are because it is illegal.) I don't do drugs, and have no interest in using them or paying for sex, but I'm tired of my tax money being wasted on activities that are illegal because of those wanting to control the private lives of others. These resources could be put to much better use tracking down real criminals and in police anticrime activities.
