CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- As a homeowner lay dead inside of his Charlotte residence, a man burglarized the house and took off in his car, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

It happened around 11 p.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of Jennie Linn Drive.

A caller told police he saw men leaving in the homeowner’s vehicle.

Officers arrived to find the man dead of what appeared to be natural causes. Detectives determined the house had been burglarized and immediately began searching for the vehicle.

Police located the stolen car on Sunday in the 500 block of Blendwood Drive. Investigators questioned both people in the car. Pressley Davis Jr., 20, is now faces burglary, larceny and stolen vehicle charges. Davis admitted to targeting the victim’s house because of seeing the trashcan on the curb for several days and a stuffed mailbox.

Detectives determined the second person in the car was not involved in any criminal activity.

Anyone with more information should call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
