HOUSTON – A pastor is auctioning his tickets to the next playoff game with the Houston Texans and he says the proceeds are going to a good cause.
Father Stan De Boe is pastor at Our Lady of Sorrows in Victoria. He is a football season ticket holder for more than 20 years—he is just passionate about the wrong team: The Ravens. The evidence of his passion shares space on the walls and bookshelves with his calling.
“Only the big boys get to play in January and here we are,” he said.
Father Stan’s seats in Baltimore are dead center 40 rows up.
“It can be raining, snowing, whatever and we are dry. They are great seats,” he said.
For years Father Stan served in Baltimore and traveled the world. Now he’s in Texas, but ready to travel again.
“We are up to $1,400 now,” he said referring to the bid Tuesday.
All of the proceeds are being donated to the church.
The bid is to join Father Stan with one ticket to the game, airfare, transportation, and a place to stay.
Don’t expect a wild party, though.
“They are staying at one of our houses with a couple of other priests. It is right by the stadium,” he said.
You’ll probably need an evening of reflection anyway. In the stadium, you’ll definitely be out-manned by 70,000 Ravens fans.
You don’t want to be out faithed—you just want to send Father Stan home to his parish living up to its name: Our lady of Sorrows.
