FRIENDSWOOD, Texas – A Pasadena man was sentenced Friday to 14 years in prison and ordered to pay a $2,500 fine for stalking a Pearland woman.
Gobin Ramroop,57, was convicted of enhanced stalking charges on Sept. 2.
Ramroop, who also goes by the alias Govinda Vishnu, first came to the attention of authorities in Friendswood in March of 2008. The victim told them that Ramroop, whom she’d met through her job, had been harassing her. The victim said he continued to call and write to her, despite her requests for him to stop, and that his behavior had become more disturbing.
Ramroop was convicted of harassment and sent to the Brazoria County Jail in 2008, but upon his release, police said he resumed his contact with the victim.
Police said even though Ramroop was aware of their investigation, he continued to stalk the woman.
Ramroop was arrested on August 13 after police said he again went to the victim’s workplace without her permission.
Police said Ramroop’s criminal history includes convictions of aggravated robbery, domestic assault, stalking and attempted murder.
