HOUSTON—Houston Mayor-Elect Annise Parker announced the key players in her transition team during a news conference at City Hall on Thursday morning.  During the meeting, she also identified key issues she plans to address during her term as mayor.

Three people will serve as transition committee chairs.  They include Gilbert Garcia, who was the chairman of her campaign; State Representative Garnet Coleman, who has been serving in the Texas State House of Representatives since 1991; and Nancy Kinder, who was instrumental in the development of Discovery Green in downtown Houston.

The team will head eight committees to review operations for Houston:

1. Metro and Transportation

2. Housing and Community Development

3. Intergovernmental Relations

4. Neighborhood Protection

5. Permitting Efficiency

6. Public Works

7. Density and Development

8. Minority Women Business Enterprise

Parker also said during the press conference that she plans to oversee a review of the Houston Police Department on her own.  She said she has no candidates lined up to replace Chief Harold Hurtt, just a list of qualifications for the job.

Parker replaces outgoing Mayor Bill White, who is term-limited and is now running for governor of Texas.

She will be sworn into office on January 2.
