LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – An 8-month-old girl battling leukemia could receive a life-saving bone marrow transplant with the help of those in the community.

More than 1,000 people joined the National Bone Marrow Registry Sunday through a “Be The Match” event held at Holy Trinity. Attendees had their cheeks swabbed to see if they were Hadley Mercer’s perfect match.

Mercer received her diagnosis last month and has been through two rounds of chemotherapy since.

Her family says their daughter’s best chance of survival is a bone marrow transplant.

“The turnout today has been unbelievable. The people from Be The Match have never seen anything like this, so it’s truly a blessing for us to have all this support,” Mercer’s father Brad said.
