OAKLAND, Calif.—Port of Oakland leaders plan to strengthen expense policies as an official is under investigation for spending thousands at a Houston strip club.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports the board held an emergency closed-door meeting Friday related to maritime operations director James Kwon. Port Board President Gilda Gonzales said Monday that board officials are seeking to implement new policies.
Kwon apparently racked up a tab of $4,500 at Treasures while entertaining about a dozen shipping industry executives in 2008. A receipt submitted said the gathering was held at D. Houston Inc., the name of the strip club’s parent company.
The Port’s board is scheduled to meet again next Monday.
Kwon, who been in China attending another port conference, wasn’t immediately unavailable for comment.
