SANTA FE, N.M. -- A New Mexico state police officer has been fired after he was caught on camera having sex with a woman on the hood of a car.
The Santa Fe New Mexican confirmed that the New Mexico State Police dismissed Bert Lopez. The newspaper says Lopez has 30 days to appeal the firing.
The eight-year veteran was put on paid administrative leave after security camera photographs of the encounter at the remote county-owned Canyon Ranch near Santa Fe surfaced several weeks ago.
The dismissal comes days after the state police said its investigators believe Lopez did not commit a crime.
Officials would not comment on whether the dismissal was an indication of whether the officer was on duty at the time of the incident.
