RHODE ISLAND – A teenager from Rhode Island has been on a pretty ambitious mission for someone so young. Nicholas Lowinger started a non-profit organization in 2010 when he was just 12 years old that provides shoes to homeless children and he runs the operation right out of his family’s garage.
Nicholas says he got the idea when he was only 5 years old after visiting a homeless shelter with his mother. He was saddened to see so many kids that were either wearing shoes that were falling apart or some had nothing on their feet at all. He decided to do something about it. Since then, he has provided shoes to over 10,000 children across 21 states.
