SAN ANTONIO -- A teenage mother is facing felony charges after investigators said she hid serious burns to her son's genitals for more than a week, according to testimony Monday in Bexar County Children's Court.
KENS 5 has chosen to withhold the name of the 19-year-old mother because it would identify her young son. The woman's two sons were taken by Child Protective Services during the hearing, a week after the mother was taken into custody.
Police said it appears someone poured hot oil on the 4-year-old's genitals between Dec. 7 and Dec. 10, which also left burns on the child's feet. The mother was arrested on Dec. 16 after she did not take the child to get medical attention, which made the injuries much worse, according to court documents.
The boy was apparently 'treated' with cream and gauze at home, according to court documents.
The mother was charged with serious bodily injury to a child by omission.
A 25-year-old man was also arrested at the scene on Dec. 16, but his relation to the mother or the children was not made known, police said.
The boy is at a San Antonio Hospital after two reconstructive surgeries to his genitals and has been moved from ICU but is still receiving with around-the-clock attention for burns on his feet.
The mother and the boys' father were granted supervised visitations twice a month.
