HOUSTON—A manhunt is under way for five suspects who are considered armed and dangerous.
The homeowner said he’s been living in the house for 20 years without a problem -- until Monday, when deputies say five armed suspects followed the man’s son home from a family-owned store in the Greenspoint area.
That’s when the suspects jumped the young man and forced themselves into the house, deputies said.
“These guys are very dangerous. In my opinion, they are very dangerous,” said Harris County Sheriff Investigator Jeff Stauber.
Once inside the house, the suspects tied up three family members with blankets and scarves, searched for the safe with the $500,000 inside, took the whole safe and drove off.
What the suspects didn’t know was that the homeowner’s daughter was upstairs calling 911. The suspects are described as all males, wearing all black and black masks.
Deputies searched the entire neighborhood, but there was no sign of the suspects. Investigators found only a pistol the suspects left behind.
“The weapon is going to be linked to the crime. I don’t want to be specific because we are following up on a bunch of leads,” said Stauber.
Investigators said it’s unknown why the homeowner kept his life savings at home. Now their sense of safety -- and the safe -- is gone.
