GARLAND, Texas — A man was killed after being struck by a northbound freight train in Garland Tuesday night.

An investigation was being conducted at Lavon Drive and Crist Road, where it appeared that the victim had been trying to walk across the tracks at around 9 o'clock.

Garland police said the man, identified as 57-year-old Clarence Hodge of Garland, died at the scene.

Detectives said he may have been wearing headphones that prevented him from hearing the approaching train.
