SUGAR LAND, Texas – Police say the person who was hit and killed by a passing car on the Southwest Freeway late Thursday was a big rig driver who stopped his truck on the freeway’s shoulder.
The accident happened around 9 p.m. on the Southwest Freeway near Highway 99, just on the edge of city limits, according to the Sugar Land Police Department.
Police spokesman Doug Adolph said the truck driver was walking around his 18-wheeler with a flashlight when he stepped into a lane of traffic and was struck.
The driver of the passing car stopped and called police.
Police did not identify the killed truck driver but said he was in his 40s or 50s.
All southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for several hours.
