EL PASO, Texas -- A 27-year-old man has been seriously hurt after falling about 100 feet at the Franklin Mountains in West Texas.

The El Paso Fire Department says the man was transported by helicopter to a hospital Sunday afternoon and was conscious and alert.

Firefighters responded to a 911 call from a relative of the injured man. Rescuers were told that the two were picking up equipment from some towers on the mountain when the victim fell. Officials say the man sustained serious arm, leg and head injuries.

The name of the victim and further details on what he was doing at the time of the accident weren't immediately available Monday.
