Man collecting cans in northeast Harris County struck, killed by 18-wheeler

A 78-year-man died Monday morning after he was run over by a 18-wheeler truck in the parking lot of a gas station off of the Eastex Freeway near East Mount Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Department.

HOUSTON -- A 78-year-man died Monday morning after he was run over by an 18-wheeler in the parking lot of a gas station in northeast Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Department.

It happened at a Chevron gas station off the Eastex Freeway near East Mount Houston around 7:30 a.m.

The man was collecting cans in a shopping cart when he walked into the path of the truck which was pulling away from the canopy, deputies said. 
The man’s family members said that he was hard of hearing. The driver of the truck said that he did not see the man.
No charges have been filed.
