SOCHI, Russia – Oh, Canada, the women's Olympic hockey gold medal still belongs to thee.

Marie-Philip Poulin scored on an overtime power play, completing a furious rally by the four-time Olympic champions.

With the goalie pulled in favor of an extra attacker with 54.6 seconds left in regulation, Poulin also scored from the slot to tie the game at 2-2. With 1:20 left, an American clearing attempt had hit the post in the Canada empty net.

With 3:29 to go in regulation, Brianne Jenner scored to cut the margin to a goal. Her shot hit defender Kacey Bellamy in the knee and caromed into the net.

A hockey captain is chosen to be a flag carrier and fire starter and Meghan Duggan filled that role in the second period when she fired the perfect wrist shot, past goalie Shannon Szabados, and into the upper corner of the net at 11:57 of the period to give the USA a 1-0 lead.

The Canadians had defeated USA 3-2 in the preliminary round in Sochi. However, the Americans had defeated them four consecutive times in the pre-Olympic tour.

The USA was looking good after killing off a 5-on-3 shorthanded situation for 31 seconds.

Boston College's Carpenter is the daughter of former NHL player Bobby Carpenter, and she scored on the power play at 2:01 of the third period. Canada's Tara Watchborn was in the penalty box for the third time in the game.

Hilary Knight set up the tally with a perfect feed to Carpenter, who had driven to the goalmouth.

Jessie Vetter and Szabados were in net, too, for the 2010 gold medal game, which was won by Canada 2-0.
