HOUSTON—A lightning strike is being blamed for a fire that destroyed a house in Missouri City Friday.

No one was inside when the fire broke out at the home in the 3200 block of Confederate. The homeowner had left to pick up her daughter up from school.

“Lightning struck our house, and it hit our water heaters in the basement and the water heaters exploded,” said Tiffany Johnson. “No roof, like the whole entire roof was gone by the time I got home, my room is caved in.”

It took fire crews about an hour to get the fire under control.

The house was declared a complete loss.
