HOUSTON—Life Flight was called to the scene of an accident involving an Aldine ISD school bus Friday morning. It happened before 8 a.m. on Lee Road near the Eastex Freeway. District spokesman Mike Sweeney said a freight truck rear-ended the bus, which was carrying a special-needs MacArthur High student, a bus aide and the bus driver. The bus was stopped to pick up another student at the time of the crash and had its loading lights on, Sweeney said. The cab of the freight truck was completely smashed. The back end of the school bus sustained significant damage, and the glass panels on the emergency exit door and rear windows were shattered. The driver of the truck, a 30-year-old man, was airlifted from the scene. The aide, who is pregnant, and the student were taken via ground ambulance to the hospital as a precaution, Sweeney said. The bus driver wasn’t injured. Harris County was investigating the cause of the crash.
