ARLINGTON – Katy’s bid for an 8th state championship came up short on Saturday as Cedar Hill rallied for a 34-24 victory in the Class 5A Division 2 state championship game.

Katy led 24-10 in the fourth quarter, but costly fumbles were turned into points by the Longhorns. Cedar Hill scored 24 unanswered in the final 12 minutes.

Cedar Hill jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first half as the Tigers powerful offense couldn’t get anything going against the Longhorns. Katy’s defense led the comeback forcing several turnovers and Katy scored the final 21 points of the first half to take a 21-10 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the same problems that plagued the Katy offense reared their ugly head. Leading 24-19 in the 4th, Tiger running back Kyle Porter fumbled in Katy territory. A couple of plays later, Cedar Hill QB Justin McMillan found Demarkas Lodge for the short touchdown pass. They added the two point conversion to make it 27-24 and they would never relinquish their lead.

The championship is the 2nd in school history for Cedar Hill. Katy finishes its season with a 15-1 record.
