HOUSTON – A karate instructor in Humble who was charged last week with indecency with a child was found dead over the weekend.
The 14-year-old girl broke down crying one day and told her mom she did not want to return to karate class because her instructor, who was also friend of the family, was touching her in private places, investigators said.
The teen said that on March 10, Andres Gonzalez, 42, kept her alone in a room with him while the other students in the studio were participating in group activity. She said they were sitting on the couch watching television when Gonzalez placed his hands under her clothes and touched her right breast. He then put his hands inside of her shorts, according to documents.
She said he was “spooked” when another worker came into the room and quickly removed his hands. The girl told her mom that Gonzalez also touched her inappropriately on a Disney trip.
When interviewed by police, the worker said he remembered thinking that it was strange that Gonzalez kept the girl in the room while the other students played dodge ball, but he did not see any of the alleged touching.
The mother took her daughter to a licensed, professional counselor and the girl repeated the allegations, in full detail.
Gonzales told investigators that he did not intentionally touch the girl, but may have accidentally. When pressed further, he refused to answer any more questions and shut down the interview.
Investigators found the teen’s story to be credible and moved forward with pressing charges.
Gonzales was found dead at a boat and RV rental storage lot where he rents space. Investigators said he apparently killed himself.
They are still trying to determine if there were any other victims.
