HOUSTON – A 20-year-old Houston woman is facing arson charges after police say she lit her ex-boyfriend’s Lincoln Town Car on fire.

It happened on July 2, 2012.

Arson investigators were called to the Silver Leaf Apartments in the 6400 block of S. Gessner just before midnight, after the charred car was discovered.

When they arrived, they learned that the car’s owner, Jessie James Mayes, had called HPD earlier that night to report that his ex-girlfriend, Kiara Lashaun Lindsey, had keyed his car.

Investigators also interviewed a witness, who told them he’d seen Lindsey key the car and recorded her with his phone. Later that night, the witness said Lindsey returned to the car with newspaper and a cigarette lighter and tried to set it ablaze. At first, the witness said it didn’t work. But then, he said Lindsey returned with lighter fluid and successfully torched the vehicle.

The witness was able to identify Lindsey as the suspect from a photo lineup, according to police.

Charges were filed on July 17, 2012.
