HOUSTON—A northwest Harris County man accidentally shot his cousin in the chest early Wednesday morning, Harris County investigators said.
It happened at a home in the 22000 block of Briarhorn just after 3 a.m.
Investigators said the two men were playing with a rifle when it discharged. The bullet struck the victim in the chest and exited out his back.
Paramedics transported the victim to an area hospital. According to preliminary reports, the man was expected to survive, but investigators gave no further update about his condition.
Harris County Precinct 4 deputies remained outside the home for several hours after the incident. 11 News cameras captured investigators examining and photographing a military-style rifle -- possibly an AR-15 -- outside the home.
Investigators said they were also looking into what role alcohol may have played in the shooting.
It was unclear if any charges could be filed. Investigators said Harris County Homicide detectives will help review the case.
