HOUSTON – A 49-year-old Houston man is facing serious charges after investigators say he sent sexually explicit messages to someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl.
Terry Lynn Spies is charged with online solicitation of a minor.
According to court documents, a Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constable was browsing Craigslist, looking for potential sexual predators, when he came across an ad that said "Older Guy for Younger Girls – m4w."
When the officer clicked on the ad, he said it had the following description: "Older guy looking to chill out with a few teen girls or tween girls. Send a sexy pic for consideration along with your message."
Identifying himself as a 14-year-old girl, the officer messaged Spies and began corresponding with him.
The officer said Spies sent many sexually explicit messages over the course of several weeks, and eventually arranged to meet, purportedly for sex.
The officer reportedly told Spies about a 12-year-old sister, and Spies asked for her to come along, too.
Investigators were able to track down the IP address from the messages and traced that to Spies’ home.
On March 20, 2012, investigators got a warrant and searched Spies’ home.
They interviewed him at the scene and said he admitted to chatting with a 14-year-old girl, and said he did so because he thinks "teen or tween" girls are "sexy" and "hot."
Charges were filed against Spies on April 10, 2012.
