HOUSTON – Former 11 News Meteorologist Dan Meador passed away Friday after a battle with cancer.

Meador was a longtime meteorologist with 11 News, and was the right-hand man to Dr. Neil Frank.

Colleagues knew Meador as a nice man who worked behind the scenes as a videotape editor until he worked his way onto the air as a weekend weatherman.

"I didn’t know him long, but appreciated his enthusiasm for weather, sharp satirical wit and appreciation for Sci-Fi TV shows and movies," said 11 News Chief Meteorologist Gene Norman.

In recent years, Meador served as a moderator on the khou.com weather forum. He also worked as a DJ and had a strong passion for music.

Meador was 59 years old.

A memorial and celebration of Meador's life will be held at Meteor on Sept. 25 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asking that donations be made in Meador's name to Houston Hospice, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Bunnies on the Bayou or the Diana Foundation.

We invite you to leave your condolences for Dan on the khou.com weather forum.
