HOUSTON -- A blaze in the Heights area consumed an abandoned single-story home in the 6100 block of Allen near Utah Wednesday morning shortly after 5 a.m.

The flames could be seen from the Katy Freeway near T.C. Jester.

Authorities questioned a homeless man who had been living in the home. They said he told them various stories that did not add up.

A Houston Fire Department official at the scene said the fire did not appear to be connected to a rash of arson fires in the Heights.

Expensive townhomes surround the burned house, but they were not damaged. No one was injured. The blaze took about half an hour to extinguish.
