GALVESTON, Texas — A Galveston bartender accused in a cold case killing in Baton Rouge, La., was arrested Thursday without incident on a murder warrant, authorities said.
Bond was denied for Dana Lynn Smith, 48, who was arrested shortly before 5 p.m. at a residence in the 4700 block of Avenue P, Galveston police Lt. D.J. Alvarez said.
Smith is accused in a 2002 homicide investigated by the East Baton Rouge Parrish Sheriff’s Office, Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the agency, said.
The sheriff’s office tipped Galveston police Wednesday to her whereabouts, Hicks said.
Smith worked as a bartender at different Galveston bars and moved frequently with her high school age daughter, Alvarez said.
Police with the Galveston Independent School District found Smith’s daughter, who led officers Sgt. Dustin Sims, Ken Miller, Jamie Osteen and Julie Adema to her mother’s residence.
Smith and her daughter were staying with an acquaintance, who was unaware of her warrant, Alvarez said.
Smith and another man recently were indicted on second-degree murder charges in the August 2002 slaying of Nelson Dunbar, who was found beaten to death in his Baton Rouge trailer, according to a report on the Baton Rouge Advocate’s Web site.
