HOUSTON—Ashley Shamp, who police said conspired with her mother to kill her dad, went before a judge on Monday. Her father was by her side and said he believes she was under the influence of her mother.
The judge set 18-year-old Ashley’s bond at $30,000 and her father, David Shamp, paid to have her released. David was seen smiling and hugging his daughter as they left the courtroom.
Police said Ashley knew her mother was plotting to kill her father and that her mother wanted to hire Ashley’s ex-boyfriend to do it.
Ashley then arranged a meeting between her ex-boyfriend and her mother. The two met at a CVS in Katy to discuss how the hit would go down, and the mother offered $20,000 as payment for the job.
What the mother did not know, was that he had gone to authorities and was wearing a wire.
Police arrested Catherine Shamp and charged her with solicitation of capital murder. A judge set her bond at $75,000.
David Shamp said he was shocked to learn about his wife’s alleged plot, but is standing by his daughter, who is an honor student in Katy.
