HOUSTON – A family in Seabrook is warning neighbors after an alligator killed their dog.
Nir Golan said he and his family recently moved to their peaceful waterfront community in Seabrook, and his dog, Tyson, loved the lake.
But on Friday, tragedy struck – when the 7-year-old lab went into the water, he was snatched by an alligator.
"About two minutes from the house down the street, we saw a group of 20 people standing, and the dog was lying on the ground bleeding from everywhere," Golan said.
He took Tyson to a clinic, where veterinarians performed several surgeries, but the dog didn’t make it.
Roger Speer said he witnessed the attack.
"I kept throwing things at him to try to get him to stop, but he was focused on the dog," Speer said.
He said he watched the gator drag the dog under water several times before Tyson was able to break free.
Two men on jet skis saw what happened, picked Tyson up and brought him to the pier.
Speer said he’s seen the gator in the lake before, and has even seen neighborhood children feeding it.
Golan said he wants signs posted warning others about the dangerous reptile.
"I’m completely broke inside. I love that dog. I cannot believe what happened," he said.
