HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Sheriff’s deputies are trying to figure out who killed a father of five as he drove home from work late Friday night.
Investigators found the body of Mehboob Alam, 39, slumped in his white Toyota Corolla on F.M. 1960 near Briarcreek Boulevard early Saturday morning. The car was riddled with bullets.
So far, detectives have no suspect or motive.
But Alam’s family said they believe the murder may have been a case of road rage or mistaken identity. They said Alam had called his wife just before midnight but the line went dead before she heard anything.
“He was a person that you could always depend on,” said his cousin, Danish Qaimkhani. “He was always there for you.”
Relatives said he’d moved to the U.S. from Pakistan 12 years ago and was a father to five children, ages 2 through 12.
His brother-in-law, Mohammad Arif, said Alam’s wife was also pregnant with a sixth child and is simply devastated. He said Alam had worked in the oil and gas industry for Schlumbeger and had just finished a job in Louisiana.
He was driving home from a Schlumberger shop in Liberty County when he died, Arif said.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
