LEXINGTON, Kentucky—Authorities in Kentucky say an escaped inmate turned himself in because it was too cold out there on the run.

Lexington police say 42-year-old Robert Vick escaped from a minimum security facility in Lexington on Sunday.

As temperatures dropped on Monday, he walked into a motel and asked the clerk to call police. He said he wanted to turn himself in and escape the arctic air.

The wind chills were reportedly 20 below zero on Monday in Lexington.
