HOUSTON -- Authorities say a Texas man was kidnapped but managed to send a text message from the trunk of his car that led to his rescue.

The man was walking to his car on Christmas day in Stafford when two gunmen forced him into the trunk and took him to a bank where he was to withdraw money, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

But after the 28-year-old victim sent the text message, the friend contacted authorities, who were waiting at the bank.

The victim was unharmed. Jeremy Banguero, 17, was charged with aggravated kidnapping, and a 16-year-old was also taken into custody.

Deputies said the investigation is ongoing.
